This Sunday at 9:00 AM, on Flag Day, American Legion Hunter-Morris Memorial Post 911 invites the community to join us for our annual Flag Retirement Ceremony.
The United States Flag Code (4 U.S.C. § 8(k)) states that when the American flag "is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." For generations, the American Legion has faithfully carried out this sacred responsibility, ensuring that Old Glory is retired with the honor and respect it has earned through service to our nation. (1937 official resolution)
This ceremony is more than the retirement of worn flags. It is a tribute to the ideals of freedom, sacrifice, and patriotism that our flag represents. Every flag retired has flown over homes, schools, businesses, and public buildings, serving as a symbol of the liberties defended by generations of American service members.
As we gather this Flag Day, we also ask for your support in preserving this important tradition. Post 911 is partnering with the City of Cedar Park to restore and beautify our flag retirement area, creating a permanent and dignified setting worthy of this solemn ceremony for years to come. Your contributions will help renovate the fire pit, improve the surrounding grounds, and ensure future generations have a place to learn the importance of properly honoring our nation's flag. We invite veterans, families, Scouts, civic organizations, and members of the community to stand with us as we pay our respects to Old Glory.
